Retzer Erlebniskeller historic wine cellars

Hidden 20-30 metres beneath the winegrowing town of Retz is a special treat that nobody should miss: the largest historic wine cellar in Austria. This labyrinthine storage facility – which extends for around 20 kilometres – is a place rich in history and myths, and is more extensive than the  ground road network in the town above. The one and a half hour tours led by accredited cellar guides are packed with interesting information about the illustrious history of this famous complex. Visitors can explore countless chambers, side tunnels and subterranean rooms – all of which have their own stories to tell.
